Subluxation
A subluxation is when one or more of the bones of your spine (vertebrae) move out of position and create pressure on, or irritate, spinal nerves. Spinal nerves are the nerves that come out from between each of the bones in your spine. This pressure or irritation on the nerves then causes those nerves to malfunction and interfere with the signals traveling over those nerves.
Since your nervous system controls and coordinates all the functions of your body, interference with the signals traveling over nerves will result in some parts of your body not working properly and, with that, pain.
Subluxations are relatively common and can be caused by any sort of trauma, whether that is from a car accident, a skiing accident, or something other type of jolting. If subluxations are not treated, the damaged vertebrae will begin growing bone spurs and eventually fuse together so the vertebrae are immovable. At that point, treatment is much less likely to help.
